Truckers Against Trafficking

Truckers Against Trafficking

TANY is a proud partner of Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT), a 501(c)3 organization that exists to educate, equip, empower and mobilize members of the trucking and travel plaza industry to combat domestic sex trafficking.

Around the world, there are an estimated 20.9 million victims of human trafficking, while victims in the United States are estimated in the hundreds of thousands, existing in all 50 states.

TAT recognizes that members of the trucking industry and individual truckers are invaluable in the fight against this heinous crime. As the eyes and ears of our nation's highways, they are in a unique position to make a difference and close loopholes to traffickers who seek to exploit our transportation system for their personal gain.

Make the Call. Save Lives.

(888) 373-7888

It’s not just good business practice. It’s the right thing to do.

Traffickers recruit out of our schools, online, in shopping malls, as well as the streets and other locations. A large percentage of the people trafficked are women and children. Many of them are used in the sex industry. They are the prostituted people on the street and in private homes, and in legitimate businesses such as restaurants, truck stops and motels. Recognizing potential trafficking victims is the first step in helping them.

TAT offers many training tools for those in the trucking industry to learn more about identifying possible victims of human trafficking, how to interact with them and what steps to take next.  The National Human Trafficking Resource Center has reported a sharp increase in calls from truckers since the formation of Truckers Against Trafficking.

If you suspect you have come in contact with a victim of human trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Resource Center at 1-888-373-7888. The Center will help you determine if you have encountered a victim of human trafficking, will identify local resources available in the community to help victims, and will help coordinate with local social service organizations to help protect and serve victims so they can begin the process of restoring their lives.

For additional information on receiving TAT resources, contact TANY or visit the Truckers Against Trafficking website.

SmartWay

SmartWay

The Trucking Association of New York (TANY) is a proud partner of SmartWay®, a program of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which encourages carriers to take advantage of the mutually beneficial tools the program provides.

The SmartWay program helps transportation providers to benchmark, measure and track their efforts to improve efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint through various tools available online. SmartWay is a voluntary program. The EPA provides resources for both freight shippers and freight carriers to help them establish green freight initiatives that get measurable results.

TANY encourages all members to visit the SmartWay website at www.epa.gov/smartway to learn more about the programs and tools available.

Current SmartWay participants are encouraged to check out new features designed to simplify the use of the SmartWay tools and reduce the amount of entries necessary to use multiple tools, saving carriers time.  See what’s new at www.epa.gov/smartway.

Donate Life NY

Donate Life NYS

The Trucking Association of New York is proud to partner with Donate Life New York State (NYS), a nonprofit whose mission is to increase organ, eye, and tissue donation in New York State through collaborative advocacy, education, promotion, and research. Their goal is to ensure a transplant for every New Yorker in need, and TANY members can help!

Right now in New York State, more than 9,000 men, women and children are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. One individual can save up to eight lives as an organ donor, and can improve the health of up to 75 people as an eye and tissue donor. Increasing enrollment in the New York State Donate Life Registry (Registry) will improve donation rates in New York; raising awareness is the key to success.

The majority of Americans support organ and tissue donation, yet only 40% of New Yorkers have registered as donors. As the workforce that keeps New York moving every single day, TANY members are in a unique position to increase visibility for the Donate Life mission. Let’s keep LIFE moving forward!
