Since 1932, the Trucking Association of New York has tirelessly advocated on behalf of the trucking industry in New York State. We promote safety on the nation's roadways through education, safety and outreach programs designed to ensure that those inside and outside the industry are well-equipped to be as safe as possible on the road.

Our Mission

The Trucking Association of New York is The Voice of Trucking.

Whether in New York's Capitol, the nation's Capitol, or in the community, TANY is there to ensure that the needs of the trucking industry are being heard and the safety and educational needs of the trucking industry are being met.

There’s no question that this partnership has made us stronger and allows us to work smarter.
— NYSDOT Commissioner Matthew Driscoll, NYS Truck Safety and Education Symsposium, April 5, 2016

What We've Achieved

Legislative Accomplishments:

  • Ton-Mile Tax & Highway Use Tax Relief

Over the years, TANY has successfully advocated for multiple reductions in the Ton-Mile Tax (TMT) rates and was instrumental in eliminating Thruway miles from the TMT calculation.  Full repeal of the TMT/HUT remains a top priority of ours.
  • Tax Repeal

TANY successfully fought to repeal the Gross Receipts Tax in New York, reduce the Petroleum Business Tax and provide a sales tax exemption on tractor trailer sales and parts.
  • Defeated Proposed Toll Increases

As part of our continuing efforts to limit toll increases, TANY successfully defeated a proposed 45 percent truck-toll only increase on the New York State Thruway in 2012.
  • Defeated Proposed Route Restrictions

In 2008, we successfully defeated a proposed regulation to implement a series of truck route restrictions across the state, which would have significantly increased the cost and time to operate a truck in New York.
  • Independent Contractor Clarification

By showing the economic importance of independent contractors to the trucking industry, TANY was able to negotiate language to protect the independent contractor status in New York, which was slated to be eliminated through a concentrated legislative effort.

Cost Savings:

  • Safety Supplies

TANY members collectively have saved an average of over $5,000 per year using the 10 percent member discount when ordering safety supplies.

  • Training Library

TANY members save nearly $4,000 per year on training DVDs through the use of the TANY Training Library.  DVDs, which typically cost $300 or more, are provided to TANY members for their use at no cost. Dozens of DVDs are borrowed each year by member companies, whose only expense was mailing the training DVD back to TANY. The library holdings are available here.

  • Affinity Partners

TANY members have saved countless dollars using services from association partners, provided at a discounted cost to association members. Find out more information here.
